The Annual General Meeting of the St Giles Society took place on Valentines’ Day. It was good to hear that the ringers were in good heart and that, during the past year, they have been able to ring at some special events for us, notably on centenary anniversary for Remembrance Sunday, the evening for lighting the church tower, and more recently in January for the unveiling of a memorial for seven Catholic priests. We are most grateful to them for these and the many other occasions of ringing. Tom Lawrence was re-appointed as Ringing Master, I am pleased to report, and among other appointments, the retirement of Martin Sutcliffe as Steeple Keeper after many years looking after the ringing apparatus of the tower, was noted with gratitude; Eva Redei was welcomed into the role.
