Prayer Book Society 50th Anniversary


PBS Chairman Bradley Smith write: Dear friends, I have great pleasure in inviting you to our national celebrations to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Prayer Book Society on 8 October 2022 at Westminster Abbey. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to gather from all parts of the country and beyond to give thanks for all that the Society has achieved over the past fifty years, and to renew our commitment to the Society’s vision for the future. I hope you will be able to join us for all or part of the day. Non-members will be most welcome.

11.00am Choral Holy Communion Celebrant and Preacher: The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Lord Chartres, Ecclesiastical Patron of the PBS

3.00pm Choral Evensong at the Abbey

Please be aware that Choral Evensong will be open to the public. The PBS has been allocated 450 seats; others will need to join the queue for general admission The Ecclesiastical Patron of the Prayer Book Society, Richard Chartres, was ordained in 1974, and served as Chaplain to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Runcie. In 1987, he became Professor of Divinity at Gresham College, London, before being nominated at Bishop of Stepney in 1992. Three years later he became Bishop of London, a post he held until his retirement in 2017. A passionate advocate of the BCP, he has served as Ecclesiastical Patron of the PBS for over 30 years.
