Parish Events in June

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

4 June | St Gilles Pilgrims' Evensong | 3pm

Those participating in this summer's parish pilgrimage to the south of France are warmly invited to join with our friends at St Giles Cripplegate for a special evensong on Trinity Sunday. Fr. Jack will be hosting a drinks reception at the rectory in the Barbican at 3pm before Evensong at 4pm. Please email the Rector to confirm if you'll be attending and for directions.

11 June | Visit from St Patrick's, Soho Square | 7.30pm

In keeping with longstanding tradition, we will welcome the congregation from St Patrick's, Soho Square after Evensong on 11 June, when Fr Alexander will lead an act of benediction in the churchyard to commemorate those Roman Catholics who died for their faith in the seventeenth century and were interred at St Giles. It would be wonderful if all those who are able can be on hand to help offer hospitality to our visitors and share in a moment of eccumenical witness.

25 June | Year for the Bible - Guest Preacher | 6.30pm

Our Year for the Bible continues this month as we welcome Martin Carr to preach at Evensong on 25 June. Martin is Vice Principal of the St Edmund's Courses, an LLM at All Hallows by the Tower and Warden of Readers in the Two Cities Area.

17 June | Parish Walk - The Thames and the Chilterns

Our next parish walk will take place on 17 June, when Wil James will lead us on a route from Henley-on-Thames, taking in the beautiful riverside landscape of the area before crossing the Chilterns to Marlow. Walkers will then have the choice of returning to London by train or extending the walk to the village of Cookham. The day will end with a visit to the Stanley Spencer museum. Please email Wil to sign up and receive details about transport.

Dates for the diary in July

There are several events coming up in July that you may wish to mark in your diaries.

2 July | Welcome Evensong for Phillip Dawson

Our new curate, Phillip Dawson, will be ordained deacon at St Paul's Cathedral on 1 July (tickets only) and we will welcome him into the parish with tea and sandwiches at 4.30pm, followed by a special Evensong service on Sunday 2 July at 6.30pm .

22 July | Parish Quiet Day | Little Gidding

The Rector has secured the opportunity for a parish Quiet Day at the Ferrar House retreat centre in Little Gidding, Huntingdonshire on 22 July. The day will offer an opportunity for prayer, study and reflection in the truly beautiful surroundings that inspired T.S. Eliot.

If you would like to attend, please email Tom with an expression of interest and further details will be provided nearer the time. The cost for the day will be around £25 plus train fare.
