Modern Day Slavery | The Bishop’s Lent Appeal, 2019

St Giles Online

The Bishop writes | ‘Millions come to the Capital in search of a better life, yet thousands are forced into domestic servitude, forced labour or sexual exploitation in plain sight of Londoners, with many more hidden or invisible. The problem of Modern Day Slavery is a profound one, with recent statistics estimating that 1 in 500 people in Britain were trapped in modern slavery in 2016. Let us remember the prophet Micah, who asks, ‘And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.’ We shall be supporting five partner charities who provide a service to, or are working with, those caught up with this problem in London: Tamar, Ella’s Home (Kahaila Charity), Love 146, Rise Project (The Children’s Society) and Kalayaan.’
