Beating the Bounds | 14 May
On Sunday 14 May we will mark Rogation Sunday. After morning worship the Rector and Churchwardens will lead a walk around the boundaries of the parish to "beat the bounds".
This ancient ritual, which pre-dates the Norman conquest, is intended to maintain the boundaries of the parish, which once had significance for local administration. Today, this event is an opportuntity to make the church's presence felt in all parts of our patch and to hunt out the historic boundary markers that can still be seenaround the parish.
Sermon at St Paul's Cathedral | 21 May
The Rector has been invited to give the sermon at St. Paul's Cathedral on Sunday 21 May at 3pm. There will on that Sunday be a service of said evening prayer at St. Giles at the usual time of 6.30pm, but it is hoped that many may wish to make a pilgrimage to the mother church of the Diocese for worship on that occasion.
There will be a reception following the service at one of the public houses in the city - details of the post-evensong venue will be given at the time. Please come along.
Ascension Day and Whitsunday
With Spring in full swing, we have several uplifting events in the worship calendar this month. On the evening of Thursday 18 May, we will celebrate The Ascension with a special service of Choral Evensong. On the last Sunday of the month, we mark Whitsunday. These special services are a great opportunity to bring friends and family to church, or to come back and see us if you haven't been for a while, so please mark your diaries!
