Our new churchwarden

Oliver Bailey-Green was elected to serve as our new churchwarden at the end of May. Here he introduces himself

I first joined the St Giles-in-the-Fields choir in November 2022 and, over the last number of years, I have greatly valued the opportunity to contribute to worship. I have also come to appreciate the strong sense of community and shared purpose that defines St. Giles. The encouragement and fellowship found within the parish have been a significant source of inspiration and spiritual growth for me. 

Oliver was officially admitted as a churchwarden by the Venerable Katherine Hederley, Archdeacon of Charing Cross, at a service in June

My career is in education as a Director of Music, which has given me a wealth of leadership experience in music education. I have a particular passion for the role of church music and its importance in enhancing liturgy and bringing people together. I have organised a number of music outreach programmes, both for schools and churches working alongside charities including the Royal Schools of Church Music and Restore the Music UK. I hope to be able to continue to enhance the musical reputation of the parish in my new role.

As churchwarden, I am looking forward to working alongside Catherine to support Tom and the whole parish community, ensuring the church continues to play a meaningful and central role for everyone we serve.

Our warm thanks to Oliver's predecessor, Oliver Flory, who stood down as churchwarden after eight years, having helped St Giles to navigate the pandemic, an interregnum and our current season of growth. But fear not, as his wife Catherine remains a churchwarden, it is unlikely Oliver will be far away!
